About Privaroo
Privaroo is an independent blog about VPNs, online privacy and tools that help people take better control of their internet connection. Our mission is to make technical topics clearer, more useful and more honest.
The VPN market is full of big promises: total anonymity, absolute security, access everywhere and unlimited speed. Reality is more nuanced. A VPN can be very useful in the right context, but it does not solve every security problem and it does not automatically turn risky browsing into safe browsing.
Who is behind Privaroo
Privaroo is written and maintained by Morgan, an independent privacy researcher based in the United States who has spent over five years testing VPN software, analyzing privacy policies, and following court cases involving VPN providers.
Before starting Privaroo, Morgan worked in IT security consulting, where part of the job involved evaluating remote access tools and advising clients on safe browsing practices for employees working on public Wi-Fi. That hands-on experience is the foundation for everything published on this site.
The testing methodology used on Privaroo -- DNS leak tests, WebRTC leak tests, IPv6 leak tests, kill switch verification, and speed benchmarks -- comes from practical security work, not from reading other review sites.
Our mission
Privaroo helps readers choose, configure and use a VPN with better judgment. We want to publish content that answers real questions:
- Which VPN fits a specific use case?
- Is a free VPN enough, or is it too limited?
- How can you recognize a serious privacy policy?
- Which settings should you check after installing a VPN?
- What are the limits of a VPN for streaming, travel, public Wi-Fi or social media?
Our testing methodology
Every VPN reviewed on Privaroo goes through a consistent technical test sequence. We do not rely on self-reported marketing claims. We run the tests ourselves and publish the raw results.
- DNS leak test: We connect to each VPN and query dnsleaktest.com and ipleak.net to verify that no DNS requests escape through the real ISP while the tunnel is active.
- WebRTC leak test: We check whether the browser exposes the real IP address through WebRTC even when the VPN is connected, using both Firefox and Chrome.
- IPv6 leak test: Many VPNs tunnel IPv4 traffic correctly but leak the real IPv6 address. We test this specifically on devices with IPv6 connectivity enabled.
- Kill switch test: We simulate a VPN connection drop (by disabling the network adapter mid-session) and check whether any traffic leaks before the VPN reconnects.
- Speed benchmark: We measure download and upload speeds on the same connection with and without the VPN, across multiple server locations, using Speedtest.net.
We test on Windows 11, macOS Sonoma, and iOS 18. For mobile-specific reviews, we run the full sequence on an iPhone 15. We note which platform each test was performed on in the review.
Our editorial process
We focus on practical criteria instead of slogans. When we analyze or compare a VPN service, we look at:
- Security features: encryption standard, kill switch, DNS leak protection, supported protocols, double VPN or obfuscation when relevant
- Privacy policy: what data is collected, how long it is kept, what jurisdiction applies, and whether an independent audit confirms the policy
- App quality: usability on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and browser extensions
- Performance: real-world speed results from our own tests, not vendor-provided numbers
- Pricing and transparency: actual renewal prices, not introductory rates hidden in fine print
- Limitations: what the VPN does not do well, and what it cannot do at all
Independence and affiliate links
Privaroo earns a small commission when readers purchase a VPN through links on this site. This does not affect which VPNs we recommend or how we rank them. A VPN that pays higher commissions does not get a higher score. A VPN that fails our leak tests does not appear in our recommendations regardless of its affiliate program.
Our reviews are based on test results and stated criteria. We disclose when a provider offers an affiliate program. We do not accept payment for reviews, sponsored placements, or guaranteed positive coverage.
