What the 6 VPNs that didn’t make the list got wrong
The 6 that failed our test failed for predictable reasons (numbers from our January 2026 testing):
- 2 had IPv6 leaks on hotel Wi-Fi (the iOS app didn’t tunnel IPv6)
- 1 had no captive portal handling required full app uninstall to log in to hotel Wi-Fi
- 1 had a kill switch that failed during a Wi-Fi reconnection at JFK
- 1 had no third-party audit at all couldn’t verify the no-logs claim
- 1 had a privacy policy explicitly reserving the right to share user data with marketing partners
